On Sunday, September 15, 2019, at approximately 2:20 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 200 block of Ruby Lane. When officers arrived, the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was unresponsive and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary information led officers to believe the vehicle was traveling westbound on Plaza Drive when the driver lost control, ultimately hitting a tree head-on.
The Metro-East Accident Reconstruction Team responded to assist Fairview Heights officers with the investigation.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as: Trey J. Simmons, 31 years of age, of Belleville, IL. The crash investigation is still ongoing; it is believed that Simmons vehicle was the only unit involved.
