Position Summary
Under the direction of the Member Services Manager, the Party Attendant is responsible for coordinating, preparing, and supervising two Party Rooms in the Recreation Complex. The Party Attendant will be responsible for ensuring that Recreation Complex patrons have the best party experience possible, including providing excellent customer service, escorting the groups from the party rooms to other areas of the Recreation Complex, ensuring they stay on time, and taking care of the room setup and tear down. Hours scheduled are contingent upon when events are booked.
Essential Job Duties
• Acts as a representative of the Fairview Heights Recreation Complex in the community and maintains a professional image • Provides outstanding and results-driven customer service • Acts with a sense of urgency and responds in a timely manner to complaints, questions, and inquiries from members and the public in regards to the Recreation Complex’s services • Prepares party areas and equipment ensuring they are organized, clean, and safe at all times • Assist in the set up and take down of party decorations, refreshments, and/or equipment according to purchased party package and ensures appropriate supplies are available prior to party time • Organize or create games and activities that relate to the party’s theme; assists in the planning, when needed, and implementation of various age-appropriate games, songs, and activities for party participants • Actively interact with all children from the time they arrive at the party until they depart • Serve cake and other party food, distribute goodie bags • Follow all Recreation Complex policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures; complete incident and accident reports as necessary. • Perform general housekeeping tasks and maintain a clean and safe area • Maintains regular, timely attendance on an ongoing basis • Assists staff as necessary in planning and executing events and day-to-day operations of the Recreation Complex • Attend staff meetings as requested • Administer first aid and emergency procedures as needed • Other duties as assigned by Member Services Manager and/or his/her designee
Qualifications
• Must be at least 16 years of age • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certified, or the ability to become certified within one (1) month of hire • Ability to work a flexible work schedule with varying hours
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required
• Ability to improvise to meet the needs of the children or expectation of the parents • Ability to relate to children, parents, patrons, and staff in a positive manner • Ability to plan and initiate age appropriate games and activities • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to demonstrate a friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude • Accurate, professional English writing and public speaking skills • Ability to be sensitive to the needs of families, including adults and children; ability to effectively communicate to young children • Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities • Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in hazardous/dangerous situations. • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks • Ability to operate and adapt to various platforms of technology, such as an iPad, laptop, personal computer, Smart TVs, etc.
Physical Requirements
• Visual and auditory ability to respond urgently to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation. • Frequent walking, jogging, running, stooping, bending, reaching, standing, and lifting of gymnasium equipment including portable equipment, tables, chairs, and equipment of up to 30 pounds in weight • Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally. • Physical ability to work safely in moving, setting up, and taking down of large inflatables that may weigh hundreds of pounds.
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the position is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts within the Recreation Complex. May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as a part of the child care environment. The noise level in the environment is frequently loud. Extended workdays and varied hours are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays, to support the needs and demands of the Recreation Complex.
