On Monday, October 11, 2021 at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a traffic crash on IL Rt 161 just north of Old Lincoln Trail in Fairview Heights. The crash was called in on 9-1-1, by the driver of the only vehicle involved, who reported a pedestrian had been struck by her vehicle.
Officers and EMS arrived to find that the pedestrian had died as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.
The Metro East Crash Assistance Team responded to the scene to reconstruct the accident. The motorist was unharmed and later released after providing her account of what had occurred. Police found no signs of impairment from the motorist and continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld until family is notified.
